Diesel Therapy Biography

Diesel Therapy evolved gradually. For years North East Country pickers Jim Hornsby and Danny Holmes got together regularly, often early Saturday mornings, in Newcastle's guitar shops.

They would grab a couple of guitars off the wall and sit and play. They would run through old Bob Wills fiddle tunes or Bluegrass interpretations of Duane Eddy instrumentals. And throughout the madness they would invent outrageous twin-guitar solos, just for fun. The frequency of these sessions increased following Jim's move from Cumbria to Newcastle. During long winter nights the solos had developed into a handful of instrumentals. Lyrics had been added.

It seemed the right time to try the material out on a couple of other musicians. No big plans. No gigs, contracts or agents waiting. Calls went out to drummer Eric Green and bassist Sean Taylor (not only fine musicians but two of the nicest blokes you'll ever meet).

The first Diesel Therapy rehearsals took place during Spring 2004. From the outset there was a great empathy among the players. The new rhythm section added their creative input. During one of these early sessions the band's first joint composition 'Cast In Stone' was born.

Diesel Therapy debuted on 21st September 2004 in front of a packed house at Cramlington Folk Club. Such was the interest in the band that paying guests had to be turned away! Since then they have played arts centres and festivals and getting great reviews on the way. In 2006 Diesel Therapy released their long awaited debut CD ‘The Turf House’ (Root & Fifth Records).

The line up of the band changed in 2008 as Sean and Eric left to develop the new Annie Orwin band. Their contribution to Diesel Therapy, both on and off stage, was invaluable and they remain good friends.

Jim and Danny were joined by double bassist Chris Ringer and drummer Duncan Tyler and the new line up began work on the follow up Diesel Therapy CD, provisionally titled ‘Here’s Hoping’ and a CD of dobro instrumentals. The plan unchanged (good original songs, great picking and an uncompromising desire to give value for money) Diesel Therapy contine to play to sell-out audiences. Their live set features everything from Bluegrass instrumentals to songs about growing up in the North East of England.

Individually, Jim, Danny, Chris and Duncan are all heavily in demand as touring and session musicians. They don't get to play as Diesel Therapy as often as they would like.

But when they do, you're in for a treat!

2009 brings a change of lineup. Jim Hornsby and Danny Holmes are pleased to be joined in the studio and on stage by Chris Ringer (bass) and Duncan Tyler (drums).
